At present, there are more than 1 million special needs children in our country. However, only 1% of these children are enrolled in suitable educational programmes. The remaining has no access to appropriate education due to lack of aids and insufficient awareness of education in parents and the society or families cannot afford the fees of private special needs learning centres.

Realising the challenge faced by parents in finding an appropriate special needs education centre, Sau Seng Lum is determined to establish a professional special needs school – one which integrates comprehensive rehabilitation therapy and affordable education programme with the intention that children with special needs can achieve equality in education and establish themselves in society.

  • To provide information and support to the family members and community.
  • To give education and therapy intervention to the special needs children as early aspossible.
  • To provide support service for normal school students that has learning disabilities.
  • To provide skills training for students who have difficulty in academic learning, enhance opportunity to be independent and contribute to community.

Utilising curriculum from the U.S and U.K, the educational structure of Sau Seng Lum Special Needs School is intended to gradually increase the learning ability of the children and includes programmes such as:

Early Intervention Programme caters for infants and children up to 6 years of age, who learns through the environment and intensive stimulation. This empowers parents to handle their children's behaviour and emotions in the early stage. Developmental milestone and several basic skills such as crawling, jumping, handwriting etc., can be trained.

School Age Programme-Lower Primary caters for children from ages 7-9 years, children learn basic concepts (languages, math, science), social and self-help skills.

School Age Programme-Upper Primary caters for children from ages 10-12 years. At this stage, children are exposed to more complex concepts such as money management and community social skills. This is the transition stage where teachers and parents will decide the child's potential to continue in the academic stream or vocational skill training.

Lower and Upper Secondary caters for students from ages 13-18 years who are academically inclined. Students will follow a UK based curriculum, International Middle Years Curriculum(IMYC) and upon completion they will transition to the Upper Secondary Level which will prepare them for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).

Pre-vocational and Vocational Training equips children with some skills such as car washing, baking, cleaning, laundry, handicraft and many more.

When necessary, Rehabilitation Therapy involving occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech therapy, play therapy, counseling and clinical psychology are combined with education programme as intervention for the special needs children.

The school facilities including classrooms, vocational training rooms, consultation rooms, rehabilitation treatment rooms, Activity of Daily Living (ADL) training room, multisensory room, music room, hydrotherapy pool, sand play area, sensory garden and car wash area will be planned and designed to ensure functionality essential for facilitating school education.
